 Oct 19 - Played first regular season NHL game. Wore sweater number 4.

Received first point, an assist on a power-play goal by Wayne Connelly at
5:44 of the 2nd period.
Detroit at Boston 2-6 
 
Oct 22 - Received first penalty, a minor for interference at 7:43 of the 2nd
period. Bobby Rousseau scored a power-play goal while Orr was in the
penalty box. The goal proved to be the winner as Montreal won 3-1 at
Montreal.

Oct 23 - Bobby scored his first N.H.L. goal, against Gump Worsley and the Canadiens at 4:31 of the second period. He actually had borrowed a teammates stick and later returned it for his own.  The stick belonged to Bob Dillabough.

 
Nov 19 - Received first major penalty - for fighting with Vic Hadfield of
Rangers at 2:22 of the 2nd period.

102 penalty minutes. Boston finished sixth and out of the playoffs.
Orr missed nine game because of injuries.
 
April 26 - Named winner of the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's most

Dec 9 - Suffered broken collarbone in game at Toronto. Missed next six

1968
 
Jan 16 - Played in first All-Star game. Received an assist, along with Gordie
Howe, on goal by Norm Ullman. Suffered shoulder injury which kept him out
for the next four games. Toronto defeated the All-Stars 4-3 at Toronto.
 
Feb 10 - Suffered knee injury at Detroit and missed next 17 games.
 
April 4 - Played in first Stanley Cup playoff game. Boston lost at Montreal 1-2.
Orr did not receive any points or penalties.
 
April 6 - Received first playoff point, an assist with John Bucyk on Ted Green's
power-play goal.

Jan 21 - Appeared in second straight All-Star game. East and West All-Stars
tied 3-3 at Montreal. Orr wore sweater number 2. He did not have any points
or penalties.
 
Jan 30 - Suffered knee injury at Los Angeles and missed next nine games.
 
Mar 15 - Recorded one assist, his 60th point of the season which established
a record for most points by a defenseman in one season. The old mark of 59
was set by Pierre Pilote of Chicago in 1964-65.
Boston at Toronto 4-7
 
Mar 20 - Scored his 21st goal of the season, a record for a defenseman,
breaking the mark set by William Hollett of Detroit  in 1944-45.
Oddly enough it was Orr's 21st birthday. The goal was scored against
Dennis DeJordy.
Chicago at Boston 5-5
 
Mar 30 - Finished regular season with 64 points, including 21 goals, both
records for a defenseman. Played 67 games.

 April 2-  With the Bruins leading the Maple Leafs 6-0, in a game they would eventually win 10-0, Leaf defenseman Pat Quinn caught Bobby Orr with an elbow to the face touching off one of most memorable brawls in the storied history of the Boston Garden. One of about 14 main events occurred at center ice, between two of the shorter guys on either team. In one of the few occasions were master agitator Johnnie McKenzie actually got involved in a fight, instead of just starting them, Forbes Kennedy and Pie squared off at center ice. The ensuing melee netted Forbes four minor penalties, two majors, one 10-minute misconduct, one game misconduct, and one match penalty for striking a linesman. This would be Forbes last ever game in the N.H.L. The 8 penalties in one game is a Playoff record that Forbes shares with 3 others, one of those players is no surprise, Kim Clackson of Pittsburgh who played 106 games in the NHL without ever scoring a goal, the other 2 are somewhat more surprising, Jaromir Jagr, and Peter Forsberg.

 
Apr 20 - Scored first Stanley Cup playoff goal against Montreal.
It was at 18:13,3rd period, against Rogatien Vachon and was the game
winning goal. John Bucyk and Ed Westfall assisted.

Apr 28 - Won Norris Memorial Trophy for  second straight season as
most outstanding defenseman.
 
May 9 - Named to the First NHL All-Star team for the second straight year.
 
Oct 15 - Credited with three assists in one game for the first time in
his NHL career.

Oct 24 - Had three assists, including the 100th of his career. It was in
the 180th regular season game.

1970

 
Jan 15 - Had two assists, raising his season's total to a record 51. Former mark
of 50 was set by Pat Stapleton of Chicago in 1968-69. It was Orr's 40th game
of the season.
Los Angeles at Boston 3-6
 
Jan 18 - Scored one goal and had one assist to raise season's point total to a
record 65 by a defenseman, including 13 goals. It broke his own mark of 64 set
in 1968-69. The assist was his 200th regular season point. It was Orr's 42nd 
game of the season and 216th of his career.
Montreal at Boston 3-6
 
Jan 20 - Appeared in third straight All-Star game. East defeated West 4-1 at
St.Louis. Orr wore sweater number 4. He did not have any points or penalties.

Feb 1 - Bruins edge Leafs 7-6 on Johnny "Pie" McKenzie's late goal at the Gardens. This game saw both benches clear for a long brawl. In the second period Bobby paid retribution to Pat Quinn for the hit he put on him during last season's playoff game. The picture of Orr on top of Quinn behind the Leafs goal was published in Life magazine 26 days later.  The fight came at 12:33 of the 
period when John McKenzie high-sticked Pat Quinn.
Phil Esposito was prepared to drop the gloves but gave
way to Orr.

Orr had the advantage in the beginning with Fred
Stanfield having pulled Quinn down.  To even things up
Brian Glennie left the penalty box to join the fray.

The game summary read:

Glennie was fined $200 for leaving the penalty box.
Rick Ley received the same fine for leading players
off the bench.  Others fines of $100 went to Bruins
and Leaf player, while the team managements were
assessed $1,000 each.  In all, $4,700 in fines were
collected for the NHL Player Emergency Fund.

 
Feb 18 - Scored one goal to raise season's total to a record 22 by a defenseman,
breaking his mark of 21 set in 1968-69. It was against goalie Wayne Rutledge and
was in Orr's 56th game.

Mar 22 - Had two goals and two assists. Assist total of 78 broke record of 77 set
by Phil Esposito in 1968-69. It was Orr's 70th game.

Apr 5 - Had one assist in final game of season. Became first defenseman to win
scoring title (Art Ross Trophy). Had 33 goals and 87 assists,120 points in 76
games.

Apr 16 - Scored two goals to raise his year's playoff goal total to a record 7 by a
defenseman, breaking the mark of 5 that he shared with Earl Seibert
(Chicago,1938 in 10 games) and Red Kelly (Detroit,1954 in 12 games).
The goals came against Ed Giacomin. It was Orr's sixth game of that year's
playoffs.

May 5 - Had two assists to raise year's playoff total to 18 points, a record for a
defenseman on one playoff year. Broke mark Orr shared with Tim Horton, who
set the mark with Toronto in 1962 (3+13). Orr's 18 points included 8 goals.
Boston at St.Louis 6-2
 
May 8 - Named winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy as the most valuable
player in the regular season, the first defenseman to win the award in 26
seasons. He also won the Norris Memorial trophy for the third straight
season.
 
May 10 - Scored the Stanley Cup winning goal at 40 seconds of OT
against Glenn Hall to give Bruins a 4-3 win against St.Louis at Boston.
Bruins won the final series in four straight games. Orr had at least one
point in each of the 14 games for a playoff consecutive -point scoring
record, and counting the final eight games of the regular season, Orr had at
least one point in 22 straight games. In the playoff streak, he had 9 goals
and 20 points. In the 22 game streak, he had 15 goals and 39 points.
Orr was named winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable
player of the playoffs, making him the first player in NHL history to win four
individual awards in one season.
 
May 21 - Selected unanimously to the first All-Star team, his third straight
selection to the first team.
 
Nov 28 - One assist raised his career total to 200 assists. It was his 271st
regular season game.

Dec 13 - One goal and two assists. The goal was the 300th point of Orr's
career. It was in his 279th game.

Dec 16 - Orr was named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated,
the only hockey player to achieve the honor in the 17-year history of the

1971

 
Jan 19 - Appeared in fourth straight All-Star game. No points or assists.
West vs. East at Boston 2-1.
 
Jan 24 - Had one goal and two assists to extend consecutive-points streak
to 18 games. Orr had 9 goals,26 assists and 35 points during the streak.

Orr missed getting at least one point in only one game - a 1-0 Bruin win
Dec.12 at Philadelphia. - During a 35-game streak which began Nov.8
when he had three assists during a 6-1 win against Montreal at Boston.
In the 35 games he had 17 goals,49 assists and 66 points.
 
Jan 31 - Scored two goals, his second, at 9:09 of 2nd period against Glenn Hall,
was the 100th of his career. John Bucyk and Phil Esposito assisted. It was
his 299th game.

Mar 10 - Scored two goals to raise his season's total to a record 34,by a
defenseman, breaking his mark of 33 in 1969-70. The record breaking goal
came at the 56 second mark of the 3rd  period against Chris Worthy.
Ed Westfall assisted.
Boston at California 8-1
 
Mar 11 - Scored one goal and had three assists to break two records.
His third assist, on a power-play by John Bucyk at 6:11 of the 3rd period and
also assisted by John McKenzie, was his 88th of the season, breaking his
all-time mark of 87 set in 1969-70. His second assist, on a goal by Wayne
Carleton and also assisted by Mike Walton at 12:04 of the 2nd period, was
his 121st point of the season, a record for defensemen. Orr of course set
the previous mark of 120 in 1969-70.
Boston at Los Angeles 7-2
 
Apr 4 - Orr had two assists to finish the season with a record 102 assists
and two records for defensemen - 37 goals and 139 points. Orr finished
second in the scoring race behind teammate Phil Esposito, who had a
record 152 points, including a record 76 goals.
Montreal at Boston 2-7
 

Apr 11 - Orr scored three goals, the only time since 1927 that a defenseman had

done so in a Stanley Cup playoff game. Ken Dryden was the goalie.

May 10 - Orr was named winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy as the most valuable
player in the NHL for the second straight season, only the second defenseman to win
the award at least twice - Another Bruin, Eddie Shore won it four times.
Orr was also the winner of the Norris Memorial Trophy for a fourth straight time.
That equaled the consecutive string by Montreal's Doug Harvey.
 
May 28 - Orr was named to the first All-Star team for a fourth straight season.
It was the second straight season he was a unanimous choice.
 
Oct 20 - Had one goal and two assists. The goal, at 1:41 of the 1st period, assisted
by Phil Esposito and scored against Al Smith, was the 400th point of Orr's regular
season career. It was his 333rd game.

Nov 14 - Scored three goals for the second time in his regular season career.
Also had three assists for his first six point game. The goals came against
Garry Edwards.

1972
 
Jan 25 - Played in his fifth straight All-Star game. Orr and Dallas Smith assisted
on Phil Esposito's game winning goal as the East defeated the West 3-2 at
Bloomington, Minnesota
 
Feb 15 - Orr had four assists in the 1st period, tying a record for most assists in a
period. It was set by Buddy O'Connor of Montreal Nov.8,1942,and equaled by nine
other players prior to Orr's feat.
California at Boston 3-6.
 
Mar 11 - Orr scored one goal and had two assists. Orr's goal, at 17:13 of the 2nd
period on a power-play and assisted by John Bucyk and John McKenzie against
Les Binkley, was the 500th regular season point of Orr's career. It was his 396th
game.
Boston at Pittsburgh 4-6
 
Apr 2 - Although he missed the final two games of the season with a minor knee
injury, Orr finished second again to Phil Esposito in the scoring race.
Orr had a record tying 37 goals for a defenseman and 80 assists for 117 points,
16 fewer than Esposito. His 80 assists meant he had the top three highest assist
totals by any player in NHL history. He was the first player to have three
consecutive 100 point seasons.
 
Apr 25 - Had three assists, boosting his playoff year total to a record 15,by a
defenseman, breaking the mark set by Pat Stapleton of Chicago and J.C.
Tremblay of Montreal in 1971.
Boston at St.Louis 5-3
 
May 4 - Orr scored at 1:10 of the 2nd period, assisted by Dallas Smith and
Wayne Cashman against Ed Giacomin. It was his 17th playoff goal, breaking
the career record for defensemen of 16 set by Red Kelly of Detroit in 94
playoff games. It was Orr's 47th playoff game.
Boston at NY Rangers 2-5
 
May 5 - Orr became the first player in NHL history to be awarded the Hart
Memorial Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player three straight seasons.
He also became the first player to win the Norris Memorial Trophy five straight
years. Jacques Plante of Montreal, who won the Vezina Trophy five straight
seasons between 1956 and 1960,was the only other player in NHL history to
win any award five straight seasons.
 
May 7 - Scored two goals and one assist, giving him a record 22 points for a
defenseman in one playoff year. Orr set the previous mark of 20 in 1970.
It was his 13th game of the playoffs.
Boston at NY Rangers 3-2
 
May 11 - Orr scored the Stanley Cup winning goal at 11:18 of the 1st period
assisted by Ken Hodge and John Bucyk as Bruins defeated NY Rangers 3-0
at New York to win the final series four games to two. He thus became only the
fourth player to score two Cup winning goals. the other three were all
Montreal players (Toe Blake, Jean Beliveau and Henri Richard).
Orr finished in a tie with Phil Esposito for the points lead in the playoffs, each
with 24. Orr's totals included 19 assists. Both his assist and point totals being
records for a defenseman in one year. Orr was named winner of the Conn
Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs, the first time any
player had won the award twice.
 
May 18 - Orr was named to the All-Star team for a fifth straight season.
 
June - Orr underwent the third operation on his left knee. It kept him from
participating in the team Canada-Soviet Union series in September and he also
missed the first four games of the 1972-73 season.
 
Oct 21 - Orr returned to the Bruins lineup and received one assist. He played the
next three games, getting a point in each, and then had to sit out the next nine games.
 
Nov 18 - Orr returned to the Bruins lineup and missed only one game the rest of the
season (March 4).
 
Dec 21 - Orr had two assists. His first, at 1:06 of the 2nd period on Garnet Bailey's
shorthanded goal, was the 541st point of his career. That broke the career record
by a defenseman, set by Doug Harvey of Montreal, NY Rangers, Detroit and St.Louis,
who had 540 points in 1113 games. It was Orr's 423rd regular season game.

Jan 1 - Orr had six assists, tying the record for most assists in a game by a
defenseman. Babe Pratt of Toronto had set the mark on Jan 8,1944 and
Pat Stapleton of Chicago had equaled it March 30,1969.

Jan 4 - Orr's goal, at 19:25 of the 2nd period, assisted by Dallas Smith and
Fred Stanfield and scored against Jacques Caron ,was the 163rd of his
regular season career. That broke the career record by a defenseman, set
by Red Kelly of Detroit in 846 games. It was Orr's 428th game.

Jan 25 - Had two assists, the second being the 400th of his regular season
career. It was his 437th game.

Jan 30 - Orr played in his sixth straight All-Star game. He had one minor
penalty.
East vs. West at New York 5-4
 
Mar 18 - Orr had a goal and two assists. The goal, at 12:11 of the 3rd period,
assisted by Phil Esposito and Ken Hodge against Dan Bouchard, was the
600th point of Orr's regular season career. It was his 461st game.
Atlanta at Boston 1-7
 
Mar 31 - Orr scored three goals for the third time in his regular season career.
His third goal, at 15:19 of the third period, unassisted, was his 100th point of the
season, the fourth straight time he had reached that total. The goals were
against Gord McRae.
Boston at Toronto 3-7
 
Apr 1 - Orr had one assist in the final game of the regular season, giving him 101
points, including 29 goals, and a third place finish in the scoring race behind Phil
Esposito of Boston (130) and Bobby Clarke of Philadelphia (104).
Orr only played in 63 games.
Montreal at Boston 5-3
 
Apr 10 - NY Rangers defeated Boston 6-3 at Boston, eliminating Bruins from the
quarter final round in five games. Orr plagued by an injury had one goal and one
assist, his only points in the five games.
 
May 18 - Orr won the Norris Memorial Trophy for a record six straight time, the first
time any player had won an individual award six seasons in a row.
 
June 1 - Orr was named to the first All-Star team for a six straight season.
 
Nov 14 - Orr failed to get at least one point in a game for the first time in the season.
In his previous 15 games, he had scored 8 goals, added 16 assists for 24 points.

Nov 15 - After failing to get a point at Montreal. Orr set a record for most points by a
defenseman in one game when he scored three goals and had four assists. It was
his fourth three goal game in regular season play. He broke the record which he
shared with several other players of six points. The goals were scored against
Ed Giacomin. Amazingly enough Orr was on the ice for all 10 Bruins goals.
NY Rangers at Boston 2-10
 
Nov 17 - Orr had four assists. The first, on a goal by André Savard and also assisted
by Chris Oddleifson at 5:11 of the 2nd period, was Orr's 453rd in regular season
play. That broke the career record by a defenseman of 452 assists by Doug Harvey in
1113 games. It was Orr's 458th game.

1974
 
Jan 4 - Orr scored two goals against Peter McDuffe. The second, at 10:06 of the
3rd period, assisted by Dave Forbes and Derek Sanderson, was the 200th of his
regular season NHL career. It was Orr's 502nd game.
Boston at NY Rangers 4-2
 
Jan 27 - Orr suffered a bruised knee while playing the Flyers. The 4 Bruins named to the All-Star game the following week boycotted the game if Barber was going to play. It was a cheap shot from Bill Barber  which kept him out of the next four regular
schedule games plus the All-Star game in Chicago, won by the West 6-4.
Orr had been voted to the starting lineup by the Professional Hockey Writers
Association and would have been in his seventh straight game.
 
Feb 16 - Orr had one assist, the 700th regular season point for him. The assist was
on Don Marcotte's goal at 18:55 of the 1st period. Terry O'Reilly also assisted.
It was Orr's 518th game.
Boston at Los Angeles 5-2
 
Feb 28 - Orr had two assists, the second one, on a goal by Terry O'Reilly at 4:08 of
the 2nd period, being his 500th in regular season play. It was Orr's 522nd game.
Detroit at Boston 1-8
 
Mar 12 - Orr had one assist to reach the 100 point mark for a fifth straight season.
He had 26 goals and 74 assists.
Buffalo at Boston 0-4
 

Mar 21 - Orr scored three goals for the fifth time in a regular season game.

The first two goals were against Wayne Stephenson and the third against Jim Watt.
Prior to the game, Orr had promised a 16-year old boy, gravely ill with a rare disease,
that he would score at least one goal for him.
St.Louis at Boston 0-7
 
Apr 7 - Orr had six points, the fourth time in his career he had at least that many in one
game. His two goals and four assists gave him totals of 32 goals and 90 assists  -
second only to his 102 in 1970-71 - and 122 points. For the fourth time in five seasons,
he finished no worse than second in the scoring race. His teammate Phil Esposito was
the leader with 145 points.
Toronto at Boston 4-6
 
May 19 - Orr played in his last final series game. Philadelphia Flyers defeated Boston
1-0 in the sixth game of the series to win the Stanley Cup for a second straight season.
Orr had 4 goals and a playoff year leading 14 assists for 18 points in the 16 games he
played.
 
June 10 - Orr was named to the first All-Star team for a record tying seventh straight
year. He was a unanimous choice. Only Doug Harvey of Montreal (1952-58) and
Bobby Hull of Chicago (1964-70) had been named to first teams seven straight
years prior to Orr.
 
June 11 - Orr was named winner of the Norris Memorial Trophy for a seventh straight
season to become the only fourth player in NHL history to win an award seven times..
It was the 13th individual award won by Orr, an all-time record by any player.
 
Oct 23 - Orr scored three goals, the sixth three goal game of his regular season career.
The goals were against Gary Inness.

Nov 7 - Orr recorded his seventh three goal game as he scored twice against Ron Low
and once against Michel Belhumeur. He also had three assists for his fifth six or more
points game.
Washington at Boston 4-10
 
Dec 22 - Orr had a goal and an assist. The power-play goal, at 50 seconds of the 1st
period, assisted by Phil Esposito and John Bucyk against Jim Rutherford, was the 
800th regular season point of Orr's career. It was his 575th game.

1975

 
Jan 21 - Orr, playing in his seventh All-Star game, scored his first All-Star goal.
It was the final one if the game, assisted by Guy Lafleur of Montreal and Darryl Sittler
of Toronto, at 7:19 of the 3rd period. Gary Smith of Vancouver was the goaltender.
It was Orr's final appearance in an All-Star game.

Jan 30 - Orr scored three goals and one assist. It was his eight three goal game of
his regular season career. The goals were scored against Gilles Meloche.
California at Boston 0-6
 
Feb 13 - Orr assisted on a goal by Bobby Schmautz at 16:48 of the 3rd period.
It was his 100th point of the season (33 goals,67 assists) and the sixth straight time
he had attained that mark, the only player at that time to do so.

Mar 9 - Orr scored one goal and had three assists to claim two more milestones.
The goal, a power-play one at 7:32 of the 3rd period -- assisted by Phil Esposito
against Dan Bouchard -- was Orr's 38th of the season, breaking his record for
defensemen of 37 goals set in 1970-71 and equaled in 1971-72.
The first assist, on a power-play goal by Carol Vadnais, also assisted by John Bucyk
at 11:26 of the 1st period, was Orr's 600th regular season assist. It was his 618th
game.
Atlanta at Boston 2-5
 
Mar 22 - Orr scored three goals and one assist. It was his ninth and final three goal
game of his regular season career. The goals were against Ron Low.
Washington at Boston 2-8
 
Apr 6 - Orr had two goals and one assist to finish the season with a record 46 goals
by a defenseman,89 assists and 135 points to win his second scoring title.
He finished eight points ahead of runner-up Phil Esposito. Orr played in all 80 games
for Bruins, only the third time he had played a complete season.
Toronto at Boston 4-4
 
Apr 11 - Orr played his final playoff game as Boston was eliminated by Chicago in three
games in a preliminary round. Hawks won the game 6-4. Orr had one assist, giving him
one goal and five assists in the three game series. Orr's totals of 26 goals and 66 assists
and 92 points in 74 games were the most ever attained by a defenseman in Stanley Cup
playoff history.
 
June 16 - Orr set a record of eight straight selections to the first All-Star team when he was
named to a defense position. Voting for him was unanimous. It was his last selection to an
All-Star team.
 
June 18 - Orr became the first player in NHL history to win the same individual award eight
times as he was named the recipient of the Norris Memorial Trophy for an eight straight
season. It was the last NHL individual playing award Orr received.
 
Sept - Orr underwent a fourth operation on his left knee. He missed the first 12 games of
the 1975-76 season.
 
Nov 8 - Orr returned to the Bruins lineup and had two assists.
Boston at Vancouver 2-4
 
Nov 16 - Orr failed to get a point, the only game in which this happened among the 10 he
would play that season.
Kansas City at Boston 2-4
 
Nov 26 - Orr's final game as a Boston Bruin. He scored one goal and had one assist,
giving him a total 5 goals,13 assits,18 points in 10 games. His assist was on a
power-play goal by Jean Ratelle at 5:48 of the 1st period. Ken Hodge also assisted.
His final Boston goal was at 34 seconds of the 2nd period, assisted by Ratelle and
scored against John Davidson. Orr's final totals with Boston:
631 games,264 goals,624 assists,888 points,924 penalty minutes.
 
Nov 29 - Orr had a fifth operation on his left knee. While recovering, he announced he
would stay off the ice for at least the rest of the season to give his knee sufficient time
to strengthen.
 
1976
 
June 24 - Orr was signed by Chicago Blackhawks  as a free agent.
 
Sept 2 - Orr returned to action as a member of Team Canada in the Canada Cup series.
He had three assists and two minor penalties as Canada won the opening game,
11-2 against Finland.
 
Sept 15 - Orr played in the seventh and final game of the Canada Cup series.
Canada defeated Czechoslovakia in OT to win the best of three final 2-0.
In the seven games, Orr scored 2 goals and had 7 assists for 9 points and a share of the
individual scoring lead with Viktor Zhluktov of the Soviet Union and teammate Denis
Potvin. Orr was named the outstanding player of the tournament.
 
Oct 7 - Orr played in his first game as a Chicago Black Hawk. He scored one goal and
had one assist. His first point was the assist, on a goal by Pit Martin at 1:32 of the 1st
period. His goal was at 1:27 of the 2nd period against Ed Staniowski.
Chicago at St.Louis 6-4
 
Oct 19 - Orr missed his first game because of his ailing left knee. He would miss most of
the season, returning only periodically.
 
Oct 24 - Orr scored two goals, his first at 20 seconds of the 1st period, assisted by Jim
Harrison against Ed Johnston, was the 900th regular season point of his career.
It was his 638th game.
St.Louis at Chicago 2-7
 
1977
 
Jan 27 - Orr played his final game of the 1976-77 season, failing to get a point for a
second straight game. In 20 games with the Hawks, Orr scored 4 goals and had 19 assists
for 23 points. he had 25 penalty minutes. Only five times did he not get at least one point.
Chicago at Vancouver 1-1
 
Mar 8 - Orr, after an examination of his knee, announced he would not be able to play any
more during the 1976-77 season but said he was not contemplating retirement at that time.
 
Apr - Orr underwent the sixth operation on his left knee and announced he would stay off
the ice for at least a year to give the knee time to heal. He was then named an assistant
to GM . coach Bob Pulford.
 
1978
 
Oct 11 - Orr played in his first game in 21 months. He didn't get any points or penalties but
had three shots on goal.
 
Oct 19 - Orr assisted on a goal by John Marks at 4:13 of the 1st period. Doug Hicks also
assisted. It was Orr's last assist in the NHL.
Minnesota at Chicago 2-6

Oct 28 - Orr scored his last career goal against Detroit in a 7-2 loss at 14:42 of the third period against Rogue Vachon. Ivan Boldirev and Alain Daigle assisted on the goal at the Olympia in Detroit.

Oct 29 - Orr played in his final game.           Montreal at Chicago   1-4

 
Nov 8 - Orr officially announced his retirement as a player at a news conference in Chicago.
His final totals were 657 games,270 goals,645 assists,915 points,953 penalty minutes.
 
1979
 
Jan 9 - Orr's sweater number 4 was officially retired during a ceremony at Boston
Garden preceding an exhibition game between the Bruins and Soviet Wings.
 
Feb 6 - Orr was named winner of the Lester Patrick Award for his outstanding
contribution to hockey in the United States.
 
June 12 - Orr was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
 
Sept 12 - Orr was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, the youngest person
